Detecting Silent Neurological Illnesses

Before They Strike

And What YOU Can Do To Slow Down The Deterioration

Your Aging Mind: Cognitive Decline and Dementia

Dementia is a cruel thief, and the threat is growing…

Here are some startling facts regarding Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, one of the major contributors to the category of Dementia:

  • Dementia has recently overtaken cancer as the most feared disease by those over 50
  • Alzheimer's dementia is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. and kills more than Prostate and Breast Cancer combined.
  • 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another Dementia
  • Over 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease
  • In 2016, Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the nation approximately $236 Billion.

...and what’s worse is that incidence is on the rise:

  • Every 66 seconds someone in the U.S. develops the disease; by mid century, this will be reduced to every 33 seconds.
  • Out of a current 5.4 Million affected, 5.2 are over age 65, with approximately 200,000 under age 65 (early onset Alzheimer’s).
  • By 2050, the number of Americans infflicted with Alzheimer’s will triple from a current approximately 5.2 to a projected 13.8 million. The U.S. Census estimates this even higher to be as much as 16 Million affected.

By the time symptoms for dementia have accrued such that a doctor’s definitive diagnosis can be made, many of the patient’s functional years have been wasted, and the disease has progressed much farther than if the condition was caught earlier. This often requires more intensive treatment to address the advanced condition, when testing could have revealed problems earlier, and preventative measures could have been taken to reduce the impact, and increase the patients quality of life. The memory loss suffered by those with dementia is akin to slowly erasing a person’s “self” piece by piece.

We all know someone who has a family member afflicted by dementia, and the effects of the disease extend far beyond the afflicted person and their behaviors can have a devastating effect both psychologically and financially, on his or her spouse, family and friends.

It is a travesty that traditional medical and insurance procedures only allow patients with dementia to be treated after the disease has progressed to an advanced state, losing precious years of quality living in the meantime. Counter to popular belief, cognitive decline is not part of the “normal” aging process; early testing can reveal warning signs that can alert you to the possible onset of dementia. While it’s not possible to retrieve lost time, cognitive function can be maintained and age-related cognitive decline can be slowed or even halted in some cases, offering clarity and increased quality of life for many years to come.

What is happening to me?

We all know someone who appeared to be healthy one day but suddenly suffered from a stroke, or developed a serious neurological illness like Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson Disease or Brain tumor. Yet the breaking down of the neurological system integrity does not happen over a short time. You may know someone who is experiencing an increase frequency of memory lapses, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, in-coordination, muscle pain that won’t go away, sexual problems, etc. The truth is, these warning signs are the results of the brain’s cellular aging that was already significantly underway before the first symptoms occur.

The key to prolong good health is to identify the parts of your brain that may be under an accelerated aging processes that eventually lead to a devastating neurological disease. It is best to tackle them at the earliest possible opportunity. State of the art neuro-diagnostic tools like brain scans, QEEG, neurotransmitter testing, hormones and hormone precursor testing, and DNA Telomere testing are just a few of the many detecting measures we can offer you at AgeWell Brain Center.

The single most effective way to lead a vibrant and healthy life is to detect deficiencies early on (sometimes before symptoms start) and restore them with anti-aging therapies!
